From Colonization to Exploitation

Europeans usually colonized the lands. People colonized for some reasons. They colonized because they want to make their country wealthier, gain power and spread their religion. In the book, Richard Hakluyt states "The ends of this voyage are these: 1.) To plant Christian religion. 2.) To traffic. 3.) To conquer. 0r, to do all three." These are the reasons why people colonize. For examples, in 1788 British came to Australia to colonize and took Aboriginals' place and also used them to make Australia better. It happened because they wanted to spread their religion, which is Christianity. They thought spreading their religion was helping the Aboriginals. Another example is that in 1876 Leopold II who was a great traveler and was crowned the king of Belgium because of his speech saying the reasons to colonize, colonized an African country which is called now Congo. He did so many bad things to the Africans such as hitting and using them. He did it to gain his power and extend his land.

One of the reasons colonizers colonized Australia was to extend their land. After they migrated and many of them came there, they first tried to be nice to the Aboriginals. However, their plan which was to control them wasn't succeeded since the Aboriginals always had freedom in their past lives. So suddenly British people started to control them but Aboriginals kept refusing it and didn't listen to them. The British got annoyed of their reaction and used their power and the violence to use them as slaves. Also, the colonizers tried to be fair but it was impossible since it's for them to love their people more.

Kevin Rudd Apology To The Stolen Generation

The apologies are important because they show the realization of the mistakes people made and meaning they will never do these bad things again. It makes people relieved and able to live normally without any fear that affects their lives.

In this situation, repeating the word, "we say sorry", and the speaker made an impact in the apology. The repetition showed that they were really sorry to the stolen generation. He was also very calm and using the low voice to show that he was serious. His face was lowered, I think it was because he felt really guilty about the colonization. I could feel that he was apologizing to the people whose generation was stolen  by the colonizers, through his actions. Also, the speaker is a prime minister, the most powerful politician, which shows the apology from the entire country. This apology acknowledges that the white people had done something wrong. All the white people had to say sorry since the head was apologizing.
